As a new resident to Jack Fisher Park, I was looking for ways to contribute and be a part of my community. Seeing this interest in me, a board member asked if I was interested in being a member at large for the association. I looked into it and found that it was to my liking so I agreed. Soon after that, I was asked to attend a meeting of the annual Open Garden Day with West Floral Park to represent Jack Fisher Park. It was a small request that was intended to fulfill our obligation to West Floral Park. A way of uniting two neighborhoods. As a budding landscape designer, I jumped at the idea and soon found a group of plant nerds that I would fall in love with. This was an experience I had not planned on and was very pleasantly surprised by. I was expecting to attend the meeting, meet some people and report back with any information. That would be the extent of my obligation. Several meetings later and one Open Garden Day under my belt, I am hooked and loving it. I was able to meet so many of my neighbors and start relationships that I hope will last for years to come. I also learned things about myself that I didn’t know. For instance, the fact that I can speak in public and enjoy it. It is moments and experiences like this that make Jack Fisher Park home for me. I am a very proud Jack Fisher Park resident and that is my experience. Do you have a Jack Fisher Park experience that you would like to share? Contact me at [email protected].
